Insight undertook two separate projects for RIBA. The first project was to equip the Auditorium with a very high brightness projector, replacing a unit that had passed its useful life. The second project was to update the signage solution in the reception and stairwell. Previously RIBA utilised a 103” plasma monitor at the top of the stairs and fixed portrait light boxes showing still images on transparencies.
The projector chosen for the upgrade was a Panasonic PT-RZ12 which delivers 12,000 ansi lumen brightness via a 3 chip DLP laser powered engine. The unit represents the lightest 3 chip projector which was important as we needed to monitor the weight for the projector lift mechanism that needed modification.
The signage solution utilised a Panasonic 98” monitor to replace the 103” plasma screen. Two portrait mounted Panasonic 65” monitors replaced the light boxes on the side walls so that content could be controlled via the network over Onelan signage players. Insight needed to run network cabling to each point which was not easy as the walls were listed marble!
Insight provided a joiner to make good the monitor surrounds as part of the overall project, all completed over a weekend.
The projector upgrade significantly improved the image quality on screen. As the projector utilises a Laser light source, there will be minimal servicing over the 20,000 hour lifespan of the projector and no lamp requirements so the choice of projector met with all the clients expectations.
The signage solution allows RIBA to control content on both the main 98” screen but also the side screens via a Onelan content solution – managed online. Changes to content can be immediate which offers the high degree of flexibility that RIBA required. The screens are also brighter so work better in the space.
